Music Keeps Me Spirited: The Black Keys

So I've got this love affair with music.  I don't quite think my husband gets it.  A song will come on and I'll just jam out.  I'll look over and he's just looking at me with the strangest expression, which I'm assuming just means "wow, I'm just so lucky to have her." Now what I really think he's thinking is more like, " I married one strange woman and I have no idea why she's getting so excited about a song."  He just doesn't get it, but for me to quote musician, Chet Faker, "music keeps me spirited".  It consumes me and takes me to another place.  I remember riding down the road with my Dad when I was young listening to Derek and the Dominos, Aretha Franklin, and Fleetwood Mac and watching many air guitars and jam out sessions. I was destined to love to music.

So when I heard The Black Keys "Gold on the Ceiling", as a designer all I could think about were these amazing ceilings with gold on the ceiling, naturally.

"They wanna get my...

They wanna get my

Gold on the ceiling

I ain't blind

Just a matter of time

Before you steal it

It's alright

Ain't no guard in my house"

Now I'm sorry, but if I had any of these ceilings I'd have a guard at my house!

The black walls help accentuate the ceiling, making sure your eyes can't miss it.

I will say this time and time again I'm sure on the blog, but the foyer is where the magic can really happen.  The entry is where you can step a bit out of your comfort zone and play with color, texture, and pattern.  It's a small space but if done correctly can really wow your guests.

Now this is a strong competition of what's more gorgeous, the gold ceiling or the teal lacquered walls.

If you take note of the photos, the key to achieving a gold ceiling properly without it looking like you have Elvis' suit on the ceiling is to keep your furnishings simple.  Keep everything neutral but you can accent with one hue and carry it through your space.

And just in case you wanted to hear The Black Keys "Gold on the Ceiling".

And because I'm such a music lover, check out Chet Faker's "Gold".  Oh, and because Asher thinks I'm the main girl (I wish)

Thanks so much for reading!!
