Sparkling Kitchens

I don't know one woman who doesn't love bright, shiny, sparkly things.  Hint, hint significant others you can never go wrong with glitz.  Brad, honey, that includes you!!  As we're somehow in 2016 and having just celebrated New Years it's had me thinking all things glitz and glamour.  I feel in the coming year we will be seeing more and more kitchens pushing the edge in that aspect, particularly with brass, gold, and copper.

Although Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent weren't the first to put the glitz and glamour into a kitchen, I feel since their home was published in Architectural Digest late 2015 it will become quite a hit in 2016.

The first thing to catch my eyes, as I'm sure yours, was the island, and then the solarium style windows.  The curved windows give such interest to not only that particular wall, but the entire space, bringing in so much sunlight.  By keeping the windows, cabinets, and even the Viking appliances all black they are able to keep the focus on that killer island.

If you think that island was special just look Jean-Louis Deniot's gorgeous kitchen.  I'm sure most people would not immediately think to put hammered silver cabinets in, but used in a small space it's perfect.  He's kept the "jewelry", like the chandelier, cabinet hardware, and even the art's frame in the same hue as the cabinet, so as not to distract from the cabinets.  Also, by keeping the floor and backsplash the same material it helps with the cohesive feel.

If you're not quite ready to have metallic cabinets, a more subtle way to bring it into your kitchen is to do what Nate and Jeremiah did, install it on your island.

I absolutely love this but all i can think about is how many little fingerprints and handprints would be on it on a daily basis.  designed by mckimm

What makes the islands below so wonderful is you get the best of both worlds, open shelving for easy access, and drawers.  Williams Sonoma doesn't currently sell the brass island anymore, but they do sell it in a polished nickel finish.

I can hear my husband Brad now, "there's NO WAY we're putting those gold cabinets or island in our kitchen!!"  He hates gold. I think it has something to do with all the gold frames and accessories at my Mother's house.  He thinks it's old lady.  Little does he know how BIG it is currently in home design.  So to compromise I would then say, "well then I'm putting it on the hood and hardware!"  Marriage, all about compromise......I always get my way on the design side ;)

The possibilities are absolutely endless as to where you can put the character in your space, including the kitchen sink, where I know I spend a lot of my day.

i'm a sucker for a deep kitchen sink, and one that you can wash two babies at the same time....even better!!

The key to pulling off these metals is to keep the rest of your kitchen neutral and let the metallic do the talking.  Whether you decide to go big, or keep it simple, you can't go wrong.  If you're still unsure about using this finish in your kitchen, try switching out your cabinet hardware.  It's an inexpensive change that can instantly update your space while also giving you an "in style kitchen".

Thanks so much for reading!!
