Playrooms

Well now that it's officially summer break (Whitt's almost been out for 2 weeks! Can you believe that?) in our household we've spent a lot of time playing in our playroom since it hasn't been too warm.  It's such a treat to have a playroom to hide all the hoards of toys.  That's not to say tons of toys end up downstairs and I step on one in the middle of the night, curse, and wake Whitt up though.  We need to get a better housekeeper, she's terribly lazy at the end of the day.  All she wants to do is sit and drink a glass of wine! 

So, if you can find a space or have a current playroom, here's some fun playroom inspiration.  Because summer's all about letting the kids play and remembering to just be kids.  They grow up so fast.  So read this, then go give them some quality time and play Trouble, draw a picture with them, or build Legos.  That's all they really want anyway, just YOU!!  (don't forget to not bring your phone, because that email, or Instagram post isn't as important)

Ok, so enough of me giving advise, onto some fun spaces.

Storage

The only way to not feel like there's toys everywhere is to have adequate storage.  Remember, going vertical is your friend.  Make sure to have shelves and lots of baskets.  I love to organize with baskets in playrooms.  It's so easy for me, I mean the housekeeper, to put all the toys away because each toy has a specific place.  I don't have to hesitate or try and find a spot for a specific toy because I know where it belongs.  And because the boys know where toys go, it makes it easier for them to help pick up too.  Ok, really Whitt stinks at helping to pick up.  Even his teacher would talk to me about how he never wanted to help.  Lazy bum.

Anytime you have something in multiples, you get an instant "wow" factor, even if it's markers or crayons.  So you get storage that serves a purpose and looks good.  

Knowing my two, I would need acrylic versions of these, not glass

We're big fans of vehicles around here so this is a perfect vertical storage option.  

If you have built-ins or plan on staying at your home for awhile, I would install custom built-ins.  First, you're able to get something that exactly fits your space and needs, and will grow with your child.  Because in the blink of an eye they will want a place to hang out and watch TV or play video games with their friends.  

A beautiful space for a toddler.  Change out the wallpaper and add a sofa and you've got a perfect hangout space that will work perfectly for your teenager.  

Let's Have Some Fun!

When you have real little ones they have just so much energy.  Where do you think they get it?  I could really use some of it.  Maybe it's that they don't have a care in the world and only see the good.  

It can be so difficult when the weather stinks day after day and you're stuck indoors.  So why not bring a playground indoors?  Everyday I think how much can I make them tired.  And if they go to bed and I don't think of Jennifer Garner reading "that" goodnight book I know they've had a great day.  The next few photos could really help with that when you're stuck inside.

Chalk It Up

Of course kids love to draw, so why not give them an entire wall in their space to have that freedom.  Now I've nixed that idea in my own house because all I can think about is the dust from the chalk.  And well, you know, the housekeeper is a slack.  So, if the boys want to draw they have to ask for paper and crayons.  I know, I'm no fun.

Now this is not technically in our playroom, it's in Asher's room.  But, I think it would make a great addition to a playroom because it makes for lots of fun.  When the neighbor kids come over they immediately go to this and want to make a track of their own.  Not to mention the positive is it takes time to tweak the track so it entertains them for awhile.  (Mother, this is a video so you have to scroll all the way down and click the triangle to play it.)  Love you Mother!!  I appreciate all the hard you do to get on a computer!  Let's just say she's no Bill Gates :)

Ok, so had I planned this post other than last night I would have gotten a much better pic of our playroom.  But this iphone pic from 4 months ago will have to do.  Every toy that is put away has that specific spot so it makes it so easy to put toys away.  Anal?  why yes i am.  side note, can't wait to get rid of the train table so they have more open play space, but we still have a die hard train lover so we just make due
