There's many ways stone and wood can be cut. Of course you can do a straight cut and be done and still have an attractive piece of stone or wood. However if want to take it to another level, especially if you have a unique piece of stone, a great way is to have the stone cut in a book match pattern. Book matching is when you match the edges of two (or more) wood or stone pieces to create a mirror image. Below are a few more examples of how to cut stone or wood for a unique pattern.

Who can say they have an entire wall of book matched stone?! I love this look, however I think it's a little overkill with all the stone. I would have kept just the wall stone and done a simple white floor and floating steps.
If you're going to book match at home why not have your clothes be book matched?!
