PROJECT MY SILVER LINING

I realize I never shared this project on the blog. This project holds a special place in my heart because this client asked me to help their family just to help me get established in our new city of Charlotte. This family is the kindest, most giving clients and I am now lucky to call them friends.

We grounded the space with a light and neutral animal print carpet. We had existing carpet we needed to coordinate with, and the size and color we selected pairs nicely together.

The warm toned chest really pops off the white walls. The stacked books in dark teal highlight the custom art by George Read.

I have wanted to work with George Read on a project since I discovered his work. I by no means am an educated art scholar, but I know what I like and go from there. What I admire about George’s work is the simplicity of it, yet once you get closer you notice all the individual steps that were needed to make something that appears “simple” yet isn’t at all.

This black and white piece by George is a whopping 42” x 56”. The clients have high ceilings which needs large pieces so as not to appear as distorted, small works of art. You can see part of this piece from downstairs, but the big wow is when you climb the staircase and see the big, graphic stunner.

We had a very long, tall wall that was screaming for something big. I decided this was the perfect spot to have family photos. But not just any family photos, but 14 oversized black and white photos. We were able to highlight kids at different ages, extended family and cherished activities. I think as new chapters begin these will become even more special to them.

We were able to carve out a special space for the kids that can transition with them as they get older. We brought in the color blue that is carried throughout downstairs upstairs into this space.

In honor of the project name, below is the music video to My Silver Lining. At the time, the lyrics were spot on on where I was in life and perfect for this project.

Thanks so much for reading!
