Project The Bones / Powder Room and Hall

I am pleased to share with you more from Project: The Bones. I might only be sharing a few photos but boy do they pack quite the punch. When you enter the home there wasn’t much room for a piece of furniture so we packed the entry with high impact art. There is a large carved wood piece that is finished in silver which sets a neutral tone on the way to the powder room since it is anything but neutral.

The powder room before had a textured type finish on the walls and a stained vanity topped with a brown granite. We smoothed out the walls so we could install this beautiful floral paper. We kept the vanity but had it painted and replaced the granite with a leathered quartzite. We sourced a vintage Venetian mirror to really up the elegance factor and to help brighten up the room.

The vintage Venetian mirror adds another layer of femininity to the floral wallpaper while also contrasting to the dark leathered quartzite. We kept the existing vanity because it had really great trim details on the doors and front panel that are highlighted more now that it’s painted.

Any time I can bring original art in to a client’s space, if it fits in to their budget, I will search and search for the perfect piece or pieces for that room. You would think with such a powerful wallpaper nothing could take your eyes off it. However, we found just the right pieces that do just that. They don’t take away from the paper, but rather, highlight the simplicity of flowers and the uniqueness that each species has.

Each metal flower is hand forged then painted. We took our time in selecting the 4 flowers that we think are cohesive, yet are different enough that you pause to take in each one individually. The white flowers and material they are applied to help them pop off the busyness of the wallpaper.

The white and gold metal flowers really pop off the more colorful floral wallpaper in this powder room.

This house has a lot of mature trees surrounding it so the foyer can get quite dark. We opted for white on white to help bounce any light it does receive. It’s fresh and current, while being an excellent backdrop to the art that we’re wanting to highlight. While your eye naturally goes to the light fixture when you enter the home, we didn’t want it to take centerstage. We selected a white metal olive leaf semi-flush mount since we were working with 8’ ceilings. It is the foyer after all, so we want to keep it elevated.

The modern silver wood art contrasts off the traditional wainscoting.

We framed a William McLure painting with a black matte and gold frame. While the foyer is neutral with traditional bones, the modern art installed is a nice juxtaposition.

Thanks so much for reading!
